CLUB PATRON - MAX PEARCE
EA / NCAS LEVEL 2 COACH AND COACH EDUCATOR, EA CARRIAGE DRIVING OFFICIAL

The members of Queensland Competition Carriage Driving Inc. wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to Max Pearce for accepting the position of Club Patron. Max is someone who always encourages and helps people, someone who can be called upon at any time by anyone for advice or guidance. His  experience and knowledge of the sport over many years and at all levels of competition – both nationally and internationally - has and will continue to benefit and support our club as we actively promote carriage driving throughout Queensland and the wider community.

Max was involved with horses through farm work and pony club from the age of eight. In his early 20’s he started restoring old carriages and by 1978 had begun showing carriage horses at Agricultural shows. An illustrious show driving career has seen Max show many Hackney horses and ponies in Australia and New Zealand to the highest level. His love of the English Hackney horse and pony saw him establish Beauwood Stud, based in Goulburn NSW, where there are currently 3 stallions standing at stud and about 20 other horses. Max also has a huge carriage collection with many carriages being over 100 years old.

The now very famous Boyd Exell came to Max’s stables when he was eight – an arrangement made between Mrs Exell and Max’s wife at the time. Boyd developed his carriage driving skills with Max  through showing his horses at Sydney Royal Shows & many other Royal Shows, Agricultural Shows & CDE competitions ... Boyd was driving Max’s team of horses at the age of 19. Max competed in his first CDE at Young in 1979. By 1994 Boyd now 21, having completed his engineering qualifications in Max’s engineering firm, left Australia with Max to attend the World Pairs in Gladstone New Jersey -  the beginning of Boyd’s fantastic career and the rest, they say, is history !

Some Max Pearce highlights from over the years:

Max led the Canberra 2015 ANZAC parade with this historic combination -  six horses - postilion team – taking six months to train the horses.
